The knife steel you want is a trade-off
Edge retention, corrosion resistance, toughness, ease of sharpening — no steel maxes all four. KnifeSteelDB lays the specs out so you can match the steel to the job instead of trusting a marketing name.

The one rule of knife steel
Higher edge retention almost always means harder to sharpen and (often) more brittle. A Maxamet blade holds an edge for ages but chips and fights the stone; MagnaCut is celebrated precisely because it balances all four properties unusually well. Decide what you'll actually do with the knife first.
